KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF CLASSIFICATION OF SOLID MEDICAL WASTE AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS IN CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN 2024

Abstract
Background: Medical students are highly vulnerable to injuries caused by medical solid waste; however, significant gaps in their knowledge remain. A 2022 study revealed that only 4.1% of students possessed adequate knowledge. Objectives: to assess knowledge and attitudes regarding medical solid waste segregation and to identify associated factors among medical students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2024. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional analytical study among 286 medical students. Results: The study found that 65.4% of students possessed correct knowledge and 79.4% held a positive attitude. Significant correlates included gender, practical experience and the presence of onsite guidance. Conclusion: Most students demonstrated adequate general knowledge and a positive attitude toward medical solid waste segregation; however, gaps in understanding of certain aspects remain.
