RISK RATIO OF ANXIETY DISORDERS AMONG PARENTS OF IN- PATIENTS WITH DISORDERS OF CONDUCT AND EMOTIONS WITH ONSET DURING ADOLESCENCE TREATED AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH, BACH MAI HOSPITAL

Abstract
Background: When adolescents are diagnosed with mixed disorders of conduct and emotions with onset during adolescence, their parents are considerably affected by psychological stress, and at risk of suffering from anxiety disorder. Early detection of the prevalence and characteristics of these symptoms is necessary. Objectives: To describe the characteristics of anxiety disorders in parents of patients with disorders of conduct and emotions with onset during adolescence. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 70 parents of patients diagnosed with Mixed Disorders of Conduct and Emotions with onset during adolescence who were receiving inpatient treatment at National Institute of Mental Health, Bach Mai Hospital from January 2024 to April 2024. Results: The prevalence of anxiety disorders according to the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale was 38.6%, of which mild anxiety accounted for 88.9%, moderate anxiety was 7.4%. The symptoms were diverse, in which the common symptoms were feeling more irritable and anxious than usual (71.4%), feeling weak and easily tired (60.0%), feeling palpitations (50.0%). Conclusion: Anxiety disorders are common among parents of adolescents with mixed disorders of conduct and emotions. When having the above symptoms, they are encouraged to see a doctor early for consultation and treatment support.
