EVALUATION OF ROOT CANAL OBTURATION RESULTS IN SINGLE- ROOTED PERMANENT TEETH USING THE MODIFIED WARM VERTICAL COMPACTION METHOD AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL IN 2024 - 2026

Abstract

  Background: Obturation plays an important role in the endodontic treatment, but current methods still have many limitations. Modified warm vertical compaction is an advanced obturation technique widely used in endodontic practice, but there are very few studies on this technique. Objectives: Evaluating the outcome of root canal obturation in single-rooted permanent teeth using the modified warm vertical compaction. Materials and methods: A prospective single-arm clinical study, non-controlled clinical intervention study was conducted on 44 single-rooted teeth with pulp pathology. The teeth were shaped and calcium hydroxide was used as intracanal medicament for 10-14 days. Then, they were obturated with the modified warm vertical compaction. The outcome was evaluated through Cone-beam Computed Tomography 1 week and 6 months after the treatment. Results: In this study, the incisor group with single root canal accounted for the majority (59.1%). Teeth with Type I root canal morphology were very common (84.1%). The obturation results showed that 39 out of 44 teeth were obturated 0-2mm short of the apex, and 38 out of 44 teeth had homogeneous obturation material. There is no case of coronal leakage or post-treatment complications. Relative obturation density and visible voids on Conebeam Computed Tomography was 97.60±0.90% of the root canal area. Conclusion: The study indicates high efficacy in root canal obturation; although some cases of overfilling were recorded, no complications or failures were observed after a 6-month follow-up. However, further long-term studies with larger sample sizes, particularly on teeth with complex root canal morphology, are required to more accurately and comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of this method.
