Abstract

Acute bronchiolitis is an acute infection of the lower respiratory tract, presenting with inflammation and obstruction of the small airways. The cause is known to be respiratory syncytial virus and Rhinovirus. In most cases, acute bronchiolitis is a self-limiting disease. However, the progression of the disease can be influenced by many factors such as the child's health status, living environment, climate, age of the child, etc., making diagnosis and treatment difficult. This review will provide some new updates on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of acute bronchiolitis in children with the consent of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
