Abstract

  Background: Anaphylaxis is an acute allergic reaction that can occur rapidly after exposure to an allergen. Since 2017, the Soc Trang Hospital for Women and Children has successfully managed 218 cases of anaphylaxis. Among these, 82.56% occurred in the hospital, while 17.44% (38 cases) occurred outside the hospital. These cases were classified from grade I to grade IV. Objectives: To assess the correct knowledge rate and factors related to correct knowledge about the prevention and management of anaphylaxis among nurses and midwives at Soc Trang Hospital for Women and Children in 2024. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study with analytical components was conducted on 200 nurses and midwives working in clinical departments in the hospital, with more than 12 months of working experience. The research tool was developed based on Circular 51/2017/TT-BYT. Results: In this study, 89.5% of nurses and midwives had correct knowledge regarding the management of anaphylaxis, and 72% demonstrated correct knowledge about its prevention. The results indicated a significant association between educational level and correct knowledge of anaphylaxis prevention (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Nurses and midwives have good knowledge of anaphylaxis management and prevention. It is necessary to maintain and enhance periodic training programs for nurses and midwives to improve knowledge and skills in anaphylaxis management, especially focusing on skills in using emergency drugs.
