Abstract

Background: Analysis of drug lists provides information on drug utilization, which is crucial for improving the quality of medical services at hospitals. Objectives: The study was conducted to analyze the main characteristics of the drug lists at Lam Dong Children’s Hospital from 2019 to 2021. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out on the retrospective data of the drug lists at Lam Dong Children’s Hospital from 2019 to 2021, including therapeutic class, VEN classification, routes of administration, and origins of drugs. Results: From 2019 to 2021, Lam Dong Children's Hospital used 433 drugs, of which traditional drugs accounted for only a small percentage with 1.15%. Modern drugs were divided into 20 groups of pharmacological effects, with 31.18% belonging to the antiparasitic – antibacterial group. Drugs used in this period were mostly in the E class (63.74%), administered orally (48.96%), administered injected (34.87%), and manufactured in Vietnam (69.28%). Conclusions: The main characteristics of drug lists in the period of 2019-2021 could aid the Hospital in assessing the quality of drug procurement and utilization. Optimization could then be done in terms of procurement and budget allocation in upcoming years, ensuring adequate response to the treatment needs of people in the area and in accordance with the management regulations of the Ministry of Health.
