Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Heart failure is one of the leading causes of increasing mortality; in fact, more than half of heart failure rehospitalizations are due to serious illness and are a direct result of heart failure. continuation of poor self-care. Objective: To assess self-care capacity using the SCHFI and to explore factors related to self-care capacity in heart failure patients at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 93 heart failure patients being treated at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. The SCHFI consists of four factors: self-care actions, self-monitoring, symptom control, and self-care confidence, which are used to assess the self-care capacity of heart failure patients. T-tests and ANOVA were used to analyze the association between self-care competence and general patient characteristics. Results: The mean self-care capacity score of heart failure patients ranged from 3.07±0.52 to 3.55±0.56. The patient's education level, marital status, and income were found to be associated with their self-care capacity. Conclusion: The self-care capacity of heart failure patients is low and has many related factors. Therefore, clinicians need to have intervention strategies to improve the self-care capacity of heart failure patients in the future.
