ADHERENCE AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS AMONG OUT-PATIENTS WITH TUBERCULOSIS AT MEDICAL CENTER NINH SON DISTRICT, NINH THUAN PROVINCE IN 2023 – 2024

Abstract
Background: According to the World Health Organization report in 2022, more than 10 million people continue to develop tuberculosis each year. To end tuberculosis by 2030, treatment adherence is a top priority. Objectives: To identify the proportion of adherence and associated factors among out-patients with tuberculosis at Medical Center Ninh Son District, Ninh Thuan Province in 2023 - 2024. Materials and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2023 to May 2024 involving 154 tuberculosis patients in Ninh Son District. Data were gathered using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) through structured interviews and analyzed using descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Results: The study found that the medication adherence rate was 30%. Factors associated with treatment adherence with p-value under 0.05 such as: job (OR = 0.15), economic situation (OR = 0.018), treatment regimen (OR = 0.10), having a medication reminder (OR = 17.53), support from family (OR = 21.03), supervision and reminders from medical staff (OR = 14.10) and experiencing adverse treatment effects (OR = 0.08). Conclusion: Adherence to anti-tuberculosis treatment remains low, necessitating targeted interventions to improve treatment adherence.
