CURRENT STATUS OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION PREVENTION AMONG MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN ENROLLED IN HIV PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS TREATMENT IN SOC TRANG PROVINCE IN 2024-2025

Abstract
Background: Sexually transmitted infections (STDs) are a significant public health concern, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM). In Vietnam, the prevalence of HIV and STDs among MSM is increasing, particularly in the Mekong Delta region. However, there is limited research on STDs among MSM receiving pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in Soc Trang province. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of STDs and associated factors among MSM receiving PrEP in Soc Trang province. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 250 MSM undergoing PrEP treatment at four HIV/AIDS clinics in Soc Trang. Data were collected through direct interviews using the STD-KQ-27 questionnaire to assess STDs knowledge and the Sexual Risk Behavior Scale (SRBS) to evaluate risk behaviors. Laboratory tests were performed to diagnose syphilis, gonorrhea, and Chlamydia trachomatis infections. Results: Among the participants, 56.8% had moderate STDs knowledge, 40.4% had good knowledge, and 2.8% had poor knowledge. MSM with lower STDs knowledge had a significantly higher STDs prevalence than those with good knowledge (p=0.026). Regarding risk behaviors, 93.2% exhibited low-risk sexual behaviors, while 6.8% had moderate-risk behaviors. The overall STDs prevalence was 7.2%, with syphilis accounting for 5.2% and gonorrhea for 2%. Conclusion: The study highlights the necessity of improving STDs knowledge, promoting regular testing, and enhancing preventive measures such as PrEP and condom use to reduce STDs and HIV risk among MSM communities.
