APPLICATION OF RECYCLED ARM MODELS FROM AVAILABLE/USED CONSUMABLES IN TEACHING NURSING PRACTICE TECHNIQUES

Abstract
Background: Practice models play an essential role in nursing education by allowing students to practice safely before clinical exposure. However, commercial models are often costly, fragile, and limited in availability. Objectives: (i) To apply recycled arm models made from available/used consumables in nursing skills training; (ii) to evaluate their effectiveness in student learning. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on two student groups: K13 (non-intervention) and K14 (intervention using the model) in Hau Giang Community College. Data included practical exam scores and student satisfaction. Results: The proportion of students scoring more than 7 points was higher in the K14 group. Most students (90–100%) expressed satisfaction regarding cost, usability, and effectiveness of the homemade model. Conclusions: The homemade arm model is a feasible, low-cost, and effective tool that enhances nursing practice teaching and student engagement.
