Abstract

Background: According to the EAU (2019), a transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is considered the gold standard in prostate histopathology diagnosis. Therefore, to diagnose prostate cancer early and find out the relationship between clinical and subclinical symptoms, we conducted this study. Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital perform transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy since the 2020s. Objectives: To evaluate the results of transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional prospective study was conducted on 48 patients with prostatic hyperplasia with indications for biopsy from 11/2021 to 7/2022 in Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Results: The average age of patients was 70.52, the most common reason for admission was dysuria 70.83%. The average IPSS was 26.21±4.49, the average QoL was 3.38±0.67, average PSA was 36.61 ng/ml. The prostate cancer detection rate after the biopsy was 33.33% (16/48). Gleason scores determined accounted for 43.75% (7/16) ≥ 8 points. There were two cases of strong rectal bleeding and one case of strong hematuria. Conclusion: Transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is valuable in the diagnosis of prostate cancer and feasible at our hospital.
