Abstract

Background: Early neonatal sepsis was a medical emergency, early detection and timely treatment will help increase survival rate and minimize complications for newborns. Objectives: To describe clinical and paraclinical characteristics and evaluate the treatment results of early neonatal sepsis at Soc Trang Hospital for Women and Children in 2024-2025. Materials and methods: A crosssectional descriptive study of 48 newborns ≤7 days old admitted to Soc Trang Hospital for Women and Children diagnosed with neonatal sepsis. Results: Clinically, the rate of respiratory failure was 93.8%, apnea was 52.1%, vomiting and abdominal distension were 87.5%, shock were 31.3%. Paraclinically, the number of white blood cells in peripheral blood increased in 52.1%, decreased in 16.7%; serum CRP concentration >10mg/L was 47.9% The treatment result was 77.1%, treatment referral was 8.3%, and death was 14.6%. Conclusion: Infants with early neonatal sepsis had diverse clinical signs, unclear paraclinical signs. The treatment results were high, however there were cases where the progression was worse than the hospital's response capacity, requiring transfer to a higher level of treatment or death.
