Abstract

Background: The combination of drugs in treatment is inevitable, especially in the condition of multi-pathology and multi-symptoms. That is the reason why adverse drug interactions are likely to occur. Objectives: 1. Determine the rate and extent of drug interactions in prescriptions for the treatment of elderly patients at the Internal Medicine Department of Can Tho City General Hospital; 2. To identify risk factors related to drug interactions. Materials and methods: 420 medical records at the Department of General Internal Medicine - Can Tho City General Hospital from June 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022, a cross-sectional descriptive study. Using the website www.medscape.com to check drug interactions. Results: 32.6% of prescriptions with drug interactions were identified, of which the average interaction was 62.2%, the serious interaction was 26.7%, and 81 pairs of clinically significant drug interactions were identified. ready. The study also showed that the older the patient's age, the number of drugs used, the more comorbidities, the higher the risk of drug interactions (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results of the study of drug interactions at the hospital are essential to help the hospital correct the use of drugs, enhance clinical pharmacy practice at the hospital, and reduce risks and adverse effects. Undesirable effects due to drug interactions.
