Abstract

Background: Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic and relapsing disease. Although the disease is not life-threatening, the lesions on the face and scalp affect the patient's aesthetics, psychology and quality of life. The clinical manifestations of seborrheic dermatitis are similar to some other skin diseases, so it is easy to misdiagnose. Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics, some genetic factors and level of anxiety in patients with seborrheic dermatitis at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital in 2019-2021. Materials and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 75 patients with SD were enrolled at Can Tho Dermato-Venereology Hospital and were treated with oral itraconazole. Itraconazole 200 mg daily was prescribed for 2 weeks and then for the first 2 days of every week for the following 4 weeks. Patients were followed for 6 weeks. Basic lesions (erythema, scaling) and functional symptoms (pruritus, burning) were rated on a scale of 0-3 (none to severe). The level of anxiety and depression was assessed by Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Results: All patients had erythema and scaling (100%). In two functional symptoms, itching (94.6%) accounted for a higher proportion than burning (80%). Most seborrheic dermatiti lesions were localized (61.3%) and had unclear boundaries (72%). Some genetic factors in patients with seborrheic dermatitis: oily skin accounted for 81.3%, stress accounted for 24, normal menstrual status in women accounted for 76.2%. Seborrheic dermatitis patients suffered from anxiety accounted for 22.7%, depression 29.3%. Conclusion: Seborrheic dermatitis affects the patient's mental health and quality of life.
