STUDY ON KNOWLEDGE AND CERTAIN FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PREVENTION OF CONJUNCTIVITIS IN CHILDREN AMONG MOTHERS OF CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD AT CAN THO CITY IN 2024

Abstract
Background: Conjunctivitis is a disease that spreads rapidly, especially among childrenthe most vulnerable group to infection. In 2023, Can Tho City recorded 7,832 cases of eye conjunctivitis. Therefore, improving mothers' knowledge and attitudes toward disease prevention is a key factor in curbing the spread and protecting community health. Objectives: To determine the rate and some related factors associated with knowledge of conjunctivitis prevention in children among mothers with children under 5 years old in Can Tho City in 2024. Materials and methods: The study subjects were 300 mothers with children under 5 years old living in Can Tho City. The study used a cross-sectional descriptive design with analytical elements. Results: The rate of correct knowledge about conjunctivitis prevention in children of mothers with children under 5 years old was 25%. Some factors related to the knowledge of mothers with children under 5 years old were other ethnic groups, religions Buddhism and other religions, media such as the Internet, social networks, and newspapers (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The rate of correct knowledge about conjunctivitis in children of mothers with children under 5 years old was still low. It is necessary to organize community communication activities to raise awareness about effective prevention.
