Abstract
Background: Professionalism is an important factor that helps students enhance their expertise and form professional ethics. A proper understanding of professionalism from the training stage is significant in ensuring the quality of future healthcare human resources. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 351 students from the Faculty of Public Health, from the second year to the final year, using a complete sampling method. Collect data through self-administered surveys on Google Forms. Data analysis using Excel and SPSS 20, testing the reliability of the questionnaire using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient and analyzing the differences between groups through ANOVA testing. Results: Students' awareness of professionalism was relatively high. The average awareness score of students was 3.93/5 (SD=0.66). Among these, the characteristic “information confidentiality” achieved the highest average score, while the lowest was for the characteristic “obligation”. Some factors such as gender, academic year, and age were statistically significant related to the level of awareness (p<0.05). Conclusions: It is necessary to enhance training and educational activities to raise awareness of professional obligations as well as to encourage students to proactively develop themselves throughout their academic journey. In addition, the core characteristics of professionalism need to be uniformly defined and appropriately applied in the training programs at medical universities nationwide.
