EVALUATION OF THE OUTCOMES OF PHACOEMULSIFICATION WITH IMPLANTATION OF A NON-DIFFRACTIVE EDOF IOL FOR CATARACT TREATMENT AT CAN THO EYE, DENTAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL HOSPITAL IN 2023-2024
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Non-diffractive EDOF intraocular lenses fulfill visual demands while minimizing postoperative visual disturbances. Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of phacoemulsification with AcrySof IQ Vivity IOL for cataract treatment at Can Tho Eye, Dental and
Maxillofacial Hospital from May 2023 to December 2024. Materials and methods: A clinical intervention study without a control group conducted on 43 eyes of 41 patients who underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of the AcrySof IQ Vivity IOL at Can Tho Eye, Dental and Maxillofacial Hospital. Results: The mean age of patients was 48.51 ± 10.1 years. UDVA at 1 week,
1 month, and 3 months postoperatively was 0.12 ± 0.15 logMAR, 0.10 ± 0.14 logMAR, and 0.10 ± 0.13 logMAR, respectively. UIVA at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months was 0.15 ± 0.12 logMAR, 0.12 ± 0.13 logMAR, and 0.11 ± 0.13 logMAR, respectively. UNVA at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months was 0.22 ± 0.15 logMAR, 0.22 ± 0.14 logMAR, and 0.22 ± 0.14 logMAR, respectively. CDVA, UIVA and CIVA showed significant improvement at 3 months compared to 1 week postoperatively (p < 0.05), whereas UDVA, UNVA and CNVA remained stable from the first postoperative week. The most common visual disturbances were halos, glare, and starbursts, which gradually diminished and resolved after 3 months. A high percentage of patients reported being very satisfied with the non-diffractive EDOF AcrySof IQ Vivity IOL. Conclusions: Phacoemulsification with nondiffractive EDOF IOL implantation provides excellent distance and intermediate vision while maintaining functional near vision. This approach preserves contrast sensitivity and minimizes postoperative visual disturbances, leading to high patient satisfaction.
