KNOWLEDGE OF FALL PREVENTION AND RELATED FACTORS AMONG NURSING STUDENTS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY

Abstract
Background: HIV/AIDS is a major health, medical, and social concern. Nurses are the ones who provide patient care directly. Therefore, knowledge and attitudes towards prevention and care for people living with HIV/AIDS of nursing students are important. However, in Vietnam, the study on knowledge and attitudes about prevention and care for people living with HIV/AIDS of nursing students are limited. Objectives: The aim of the study was to describe knowledge and towards prevention and care for people living with HIV/AIDS attitudes as well as their association among nursing students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Material and method: a crosssectional descriptive study was conducted and involved 106 undergraduate nursing students in the third and fourth year of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: The mean score of nursing student participants’ knowledge about prevention of HIV infection was 14.9+3.02 score. 62.3% of students had a good knowledge of HIV prevention. There were 35.8% and 1.9% of students who had moderate and poor knowledge, respectively. 17.0% of students had negative attitudes regarding caring for people living with HIV/AIDS. The mean score of the attitudes was 52.6+10.2. There was no statistically significant association between the knowledge and attitudes towards prevention and care for people living with HIV/AIDS (p>0.05). Conclusion: There were some limitations of the knowledge and attitudes towards prevention and care for people living with HIV/AIDS among nursing students. More training courses about HIV/AIDS are recommended to enhance knowledge and attitudes among students.
