THE RESULTS AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS TO THE DIAGNOSIS OF LUNG CANCER USING ENDOBRONCHIAL BIOPSY THROUGH FLEXIBLE BRONCHOSCOPY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Flexible bronchoscopy plays a crucial role in accessing endobronchial lesions, allowing for endobronchial biopsy of suspected lesions which accurate diagnosis and opens avenues for treatment. Objective: To evaluate the results and factors associated with the diagnosis of lung cancer using endobronchial biopsy in patients with suspected malignant pulmonary lesions. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 96 patients with suspected malignant pulmonary lesions who underwent flexible bronchoscopy and endobronchial biopsy at Can Tho Central General Hospital from 2023 to 2024. Results: The diagnostic yield for lung cancer was 38.55%. Among patients with endobronchial masses, the diagnostic yield was 51.06%, and biopsies taken directly from endobronchial tumors yielded a 63.33% diagnostic rate. Associated factors included symptoms of dyspnea, pleural invasion observed on chest computed tomography, lesions located in the left upper lobe as seen on bronchoscopy, and the specific biopsy site. Conclusion: Endobronchial biopsy via flexible bronchoscopy is valuable in diagnosing lung cancer, particularly in cases with suspicious findings on chest computed tomography and visible endobronchial lesions.
