POTENTIAL OF EDUCATIONAL BOARD GAMES FOR STUDENTS OF HEALTH-SCIENCES FIELD IN VIET NAM: A REVIEW

Abstract

 Background: The remarkable advancement in technology has driven significant changes in education, shifting from traditional teaching methods to the application of modern learning tools. Among these, board games have garnered attention as an effective learning aid in various fields, though they remain underutilized in the training of healthcare students in Vietnam. Objective: This review aims to provide an overview of board games and their potential. Collecting and processing reference materials: Using keywords such as “board game”, “game-based learning”, “gamification” and “serious game”, we conducted searches in databases including SCOPUS, Google Scholar, PubMed, and ResearchGate to identify relevant studies. We then presented concepts, advantages, disadvantages, and the design process of board games. Additionally, information related to the application and potential of board games was discussed. Conclusion: Board games hold great potential in enhancing learning effectiveness and addressing challenges in traditional healthcare training. Findings from studies indicate that game-based learning methods, and board games in particular, can increase learner interaction, encourage autonomous and creative learning, and facilitate the engaging, effective, and easy acquisition of knowledge. This opens new prospects for developing and applying modern teaching methods in healthcare education to improve the quality and effectiveness of education.
