Abstract

Background: Genital warts are a common sexually transmitted disease caused by the Human Papillomavirus HPV. Because there are few or no symptoms, the patient is difficult to recognize and easily spread to others. Although there are few symptoms, genital warts have a significant impact on the patient's quality of life. There are many published studies showing the negative effects of genital warts on quality of life and mental health. The number of genital wart examinations at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital is increasing, so it is necessary to focus on both treatment and the psychological aspect and quality of life of the patient. Objectives: 1. To describe the clinical characteristics of inpatient genital warts; 2. To assess the quality of life of inpatients with genital warts. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 59 patients diagnosed with genital warts and treated as inpatients at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital from July 2023 to July 2024. Each patient will be asked about their medical history, detailed medical history, general information will be collected, clinical examination, lesion photography will be taken and finally the patient participating in the survey will fill out a questionnaire on quality of life. Result: Among 59 genital warts patients were divided into four groups including acuminated condyloma (74.6%), popular condyloma (16.9%), keratotic condyloma (3.4%)  and  flat-topped papules (5.1%). The most common location of injury was the vulva - vagina, accounting for 25.4%. Most of the time the disease did not affect daily activities, but up to 47.5% were slightly affected by the level of anxiety/depression caused by the disease. The average overall quality of life score according to CECA10 was 2.31 ± 0.35, reflecting a moderate to bad level. Conclusions: Acuminated condyloma accounted for the highest rate of 74.6%. The most common location of injury was the vulva - vagina, accounting for 25.4%. Although most of the disease does not affect the patient's daily activities, it affects the quality of life, especially the psychology of most patients. Therefore, in addition to consulting and raising awareness, paying attention to monitoring the above problems of patients is extremely necessary for treatment.
