Abstract

Background: Variceal bleeding remains a major cause of death in cirrhotic patients. Despite significant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of this complication, but the mortality and rebleeding rate are still high. Therefore, evaluating and predicting the clinical outcome plays an important role in improving prognosis and mortality in these patients. Objectives: To evaluate the prognostic value of AIMS65 score in cirrhotic patients present with oesophageal variceal hemorrhage. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study performed on 130 patients diagnosed with esophageal variceal bleeding treated at Can Tho Central General Hospital from May 2020 to June 2022. Results: The majority of patients was male (75.3%), with the mean age was 52.02±12.2. The mean AIMS65 score was 1.9±1.1. AIMS65 score has a good value in predicting rebleeding with AUROC was 0.864, sensitivity 90.0% and specificity 73.6% (p<0.0001) and mortality with AUROC was 0.864, sensitivity 100%, specificity 76.8% (p<0.0001). Conclusion: AIMS65 score is an accurate risk-stratification score in predicting the in-hospital rebleeding and mortality rate of esophageal variceal hemorrhage patients. Patients with an AIMS65 score higher than 3 should be monitored closely and treated intensively.
