Abstract

Background: Self-medication is the individual's self-selection and use of any medication, including herbs, to treat diseases or symptoms identified by the patient without the guidance of healthcare workers. This behavior is quite common and can pose risks for both mother and fetus. Objectives: To determine the rate of self-medication and learn some factors related to self- medication among pregnant women in Phong Dien district, Can Tho city, in 2024. Materials and methods: The cross-sectional descriptive study on 116 pregnant women who were living in Phong Dien district, Can Tho city, from February to June 2024. Results: The rate of self-medication in pregnant women before and during pregnancy was 44.8% and 4.3%. There is a relationship between pregnant period and self-treatment behavior during pregnancy (p<0.05). Conclusions: It is necessary to promote communication on health education for pregnant women to ensure the health of both mother and baby.
