Abstract

Background: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a serious complication in patients with acute cerebral infarction, the incidence varies from 10-75%. It poses a risk of pulmonary embolism, and in severe cases, it can cause death. Objective: Survey of the rate and some factors related to deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities in patients with cerebral infarction at Long An Provincial General Hospital. Materials and methods: A prospective study was conducted on 95 patients diagnosed with cerebral infarction admitted to Long An General Hospital with a Wells score of 2 points or more from April 2023 to April 2024. Results: Regarding the general characteristic: the average age was 70.1 ±10.7, most cases was ≥60 years old, male accounted 52.7%, female accounted 47.3%. The obesity rate among patients was 24.2%, history of hypertension was 81.1%, type 2 diabetes was 46.9% and smoking was 35.8%. the rate of lower limb deep vein thrombosis in patients with cerebral infarction was 24.2%, There was a correlation between vein thrombosis in the lower limbs and factors such as: age (p=0.014) and obesity increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs by 5 times with p=0.016. Conclusion: Deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs in patients cerebral infarction had a high rate (24.2%), the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis was associated with age and obesity.
