STUDY ON CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND RPR AND TPHA TEST RESULTS OF STAGE II SYPHILIS PATIENTS AT CAN THO CITY DERMATOLOGY HOSPITAL

Abstract
Background: Syphilis is one of the sexually transmitted diseases, caused by the spirochete Treponema Pallidum. Stage II begins from the 5th to the 8th week after the appearance of the chancre, with symptoms of fever, headache, and rash. RPR and TPHA tests play a role in identifying stage II syphilis, thereby providing timely treatment measures for syphilis patients in general and patients with stage II syphilis in particular. Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of patients with stage II syphilis at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital in 2023-2024. Survey of RPR and TPHA test results of patients with stage II syphilis at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital in 2023-2024. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with analysis of 71 patients diagnosed with stage II syphilis who came to the Can Tho Dermatology Hospital for examination and treatment. Results: Patients with mucosal plaque lesions accounted for the highest proportion, 56.3%. Combined lesions accounted for 53.5%. Next were exfoliative lesions accounting for 52.1%. Lesions in multiple locations accounted for the highest proportion, 64.8%, followed by the genitals and buttocks, 57.7% and 56.3%, respectively. The proportion of anal-genital sex accounted for the highest proportion, 40.8%. Syphilis patients with 2 or more sexual partners accounted for 60.6%. Pre-treatment RPR results were positive in 1/256, accounting for the highest rate of 19.7%, and pre-treatment TPHA results were positive in 1/1280, accounting for the highest rate of 31% of the total 71 samples. Conclusion: The results showed that most of the patients with stage II syphilis admitted to the hospital had mucosal plaque lesions and RPR was positive at 1/256, TPHA was positive at 1/1280.
