Abstract

Background: Currently, the quality of life (QOL) of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients after radical surgery has received more attention. Objectives: To evaluate the QOL and to explore the affecting factors of patients with CRC after radical surgery. Materials and methods: A crosssectional study was conducted on 48 patients with postoperatively curative CRC at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from July 2021 to May 2023. Results: Mean age was 58.83±13.12 years, with 62.5% male. The global health status mean score was 70.83±14.28. The majority of functional scores were higher than 60. Symptom scores were typically less than 40. Factors such as body mass index, religion, surgical method, and stage of disease had an impact on a patient's quality of life. The EORTC-C30 scale found that physical, role, social, emotional, and cognitive functioning scores were positively connected with global health status. In contrast, fatigue, pain, dyspnea, and appetite loss symptom scores were negatively correlated. Anxiety, urinary frequency, urinary incontinence, abdominal pain, buttock pain, dry mouth, and taste were all inversely connected to global health status, according to the EORTC-CR29 questionnaire. Parameters such as role function and body mass index probably predicted the QOL. Conclusions: The QOL in CRC patients after curative surgery was quite good. Factors including body mass index, religion, surgical method, disease stage, and some function and symptom scores linked to postoperative problems affected the patient's QoL after surgery.
