Abstract

Background: Muoi Noi is a zone II commune located southwest of Thuan Chau district, 24km from the district center, and 19km from Son La city center, with a low educational level and slow economic development. In the commune, where 4 ethnic groups Kinh, Thai, Mong, and La Ha live together, of which the Thai ethnic group accounts for 81.5%, socio-economic conditions are still difficult, which directly affects the commune to people's house hygiene standards. Objective: To describe the current status of toilet facilities in Muoi Noi commune, Thuan Chau district, Son La province in 2023. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study on 300 household heads and toilet facilities in Muoi Noi Commune, Thuan Chau District, Son La Province. Results: 97,0% of households had toilets. The distribution of toilet types was as follows: double-pit 21.0%, ventilated improved pit 19.0%, pour flush 14.0%, self-constructed 34.0%, and dug 9.0%. However, 50.7% of households were found to use unsanitary toilet facilities. The proportions of households using hygienic toilet facilities were: double-pit 30.2%, ventilated improved pit 14.0%, pour flush 28.6%, and selfconstructed 98.0%. Conclusion: The results of this research reccomended the local authorities focus on providing financial assistance and support for building hygienic toilets for poor, near-poor, and policy beneficiary households. Additionally, they suggest improving the quality of health education, enhancing on-ground activities, and timely addressing environmental sanitation issues and healthcare challenges at the grassroots level with appropriate support measures.
