RESEARCH ON THE CLINICAL, SUBCLINICAL FEATURES OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC FUNGAL RHINOSINUSITIS IN CAN THO CITY IN 2020 – 2022

Abstract
Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is one of the most common diseases in the field of otorhinolaryngology within our country and abroad. CRS affects severely the patient’s health and costs a lot of money for treating. There are many causes of chronic rhinosinusitis, in which the prevalence of the chronic fungal rhinosinusitis has been increasing in recent decades. Objectives: To describe the clinical, subclinical features of chronic fungal rhinosinusitis in Can Tho city from 2020 to 2022. Materials and methods: 48 patients were diagnosed with chronic fungal rhinosinusitis. They were treated by endoscopic sinus surgery at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Can Tho ENT Hospital from March 2020 to January 2022. The method study was a descriptive and prospective study combined with clinical intervention. Results: The rates of clinical symptoms are nasal discharge (97.9%), cephalon-facial pain (72.9%), unilateral nasal obstruction (25%) and hyposmia (14.6%). Endoscopic features include: Mucopurulent discharge from the middle meatus accounting 52.1%, mucopurulent discharge from superior meatus accounting 6.3%. Computed tomography images: Blurred the unilateral maxillary sinus accounting 79.2%. The fungal agents were determined to be Candida accounting 95.8%, Aspergillus accounting 2.1%, both of them (2.1%). Conclusions: Chronic fungal rhinosinusitis in Can Tho city is mainly caused by Candida sp with predominant clinical symtoms such as: Nasal discharge and facial pain.
