Abstract

Background: Left atrial myxoma is one of the most popular benign cardiac tumor. Atrial myxoma resection through minimal invasive approach become more popular and more effective than full sternotomy. This study is performed to assess the effectiveness and safety of this surgery at Cho Ray hospital. Objectives: To evaluate the clinical and subclinical presentation of patient with left atrial myxoma and early outcome of minimally invasive left atrial myxoma resection. Materials and methods: Retrospective, descriptive study of patients, who underwent minimally  invasive   left   atrial myxoma resection, with or without valve repair from January 2020 to December 2023 at Cho Ray hospital. Results: 34 patients underwent minimally invasive left atrial myxoma resection, average age 57, ratio of male: female was 1:2. The clinical presentation was mostly dyspnea, chest pain, and no symptoms. Left atrial myxoma attach mostly at atrial septum (82.4%), average size of tumor: 45.62 ± 14.99 mm. Approaching the tumor through left atrial 29 cases, in that, 2 cases with mitral valve repair and 1 case with bicuspid valve repair. Ventilation time was 11.22 ± 5.17 hours, intensive care unit stay was 1.53 ± 0.90 days, and hospital stay time was 7.76 ± 2.38 days. Complications of this surgery were 2.9% of death, 8.8% of pneumothorax, 17.6% of subcutaneous Emphysema. Result of echocardiography after surgery was no tumor or vale regurgitation. Conclusions: Minimally invasive left atrial myxoma resection is safe, effective and feasible  for patients with atrial myxoma.
