Abstract

Background: Safe injections play an important role in both treatment and prevention. If an infusion is not secure, it not only causes harm to the person receiving the injection, the injector, and the person collecting and treating medical waste, but it also causes harm to the entire community. From there, we can see the importance of equipping nursing students with knowledge and attitudes about safe injections in nursing training. However, only a few studies have been recorded on nursing students' current knowledge and attitudes about safe injections. Objectives: To describe the current state of knowledge and attitudes, and to identify related factors about safe injections in nursing students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Materials and methods: A crosssectional study design was conducted on 94 nursing students who have been studying at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: Nursing students had 72% correct knowledge about safe injections and 55% positive attitudes toward this issue. There was no relationship between knowledge and attitudes with nursing students' characteristics. Conclusions: Nursing students have a fair level of knowledge about safe injections and a moderate level of positive attitudes toward this issue. Therefore, nursing educators should pay more attention to this situation and develop specific and appropriate intervention strategies to improve knowledge and attitudes about safe injections for future nursing students.
