Abstract

Background: Hospital infections are one of the major challenges facing medicine. The leading edge of hospital infection prevention strategies is adherence to standard precautions. Objectives: To describe the status of knowledge and attitudes about standard precautions of nursing students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2024. Materials and methods: A crosssectional descriptive study was conducted on 81 undergraduate nursing students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: Nursing students with correct and incorrect knowledge about standard precautions were 11.1% and 88.9%, respectively. Students with a positive attitude toward implementing standard precaution measures were 83.7%, with 15.1% having a neutral attitude and 1.2% having a negative attitude. Conclusion: Knowledge of standard precautions of nursing students was low, intervention measures are needed to improve student’s knowledge. However, students had a highly positive attitude toward standard precautions, which is a favorable factor for interventions to enhance students' knowledge and effectiveness.
