Abstract

Background: Psoriasis is a common autoimmune skin disease, affecting 2-3% of the world's population. The clinical manifestations of the disease are diverse, with plaque psoriasis being the most common form, presenting with varying degrees of itching depending on the individual and the stage of the disease. Although rarely fatal, psoriasis impacts the health and psychological wellbeing of patients, increasing feelings of agitation and stigma, which can contribute to anxiety and depression-related disorders. Objective: To describe the characteristics of quality of life and some related factors affecting the quality of life in psoriasis patients. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on 130 patients diagnosed and treated for psoriasis at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital from December 2023 to June 2024. Results: Psoriasis affected the quality of life in 90% of patients, with moderate to severe impacts in 68.4%. The most affected quality of life domains were symptoms and feelings, and daily activities (average scores were 2.59±1.15 and 2.37±1.60, respectively). Patients aged 16-40 had a 2.93 times higher risk of quality of life impairment compared to those aged 41-65 and a more than 7 times higher risk compared to those over 65 years old. Female patients were more affected than male patients (mean DLQI scores were 10.65±0.80 vs. 8.00±0.62, p<0.05). Conclusion: 90% of psoriasis patients experience an impact on their quality of life, with symptoms and feelings, as well as daily activities, being the most affected aspects. Some factors that are strongly associated with a significant decline in the quality of life of psoriasis patients include being female and being of working age.
