Abstract

Background: The existing state of pharmaceutical human resources in general hospitals and district medical centers across the country requires more attention in order to improve the quality of people's health care. Objective: To evaluate the organization and existing distribution of pharmacy human resources in general hospitals and district medical centers across the country. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive research of 3927 pharmacy workers from 729 general hospitals and district medical centers across the country as of December 31, 2022. Results: By the end of 2022, district hospitals will employ 3927 pharmacy staff, with 892 pharmacists holding university degrees or higher, accounting for 10.1%. At the district level, primarily DC&TCD account for 55.1%; on average, there are roughly 5.4 DS/hospital; nevertheless, the distribution is unequal; the ratio of DS/BS is 1/3.8; DS/GB is 1/35.8. There is an imbalance and shortage of university pharmacists at the district level. Conclusion: The organization of pharmacy human resources in general hospitals and district medical centers remains uneven across the country, both urban and rural. The pharmacist-to-bed, doctor-to-hospital ratio is low when compared to the Circular 03/2023/TT-BYT norms.
