ASSESSING THE RESULTS OF COMMUNICATION INTERVENTION TO CHANGE KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICES ABOUT BREASTFEEDING OF MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN FROM 6 TO 12 MONTHS OLD IN CA MAU CITY IN 2023-2024

Abstract
Background: Breastfeeding brings many benefits. In Ca Mau City, there has been no systematic research on interventions to change the knowledge and practice of breastfeeding for mothers with children between the ages of 6 and 12 months. Objectives: To assess the results of communication intervention to change knowledge, and practices about breastfeeding of mothers with children from 6 to 12 months old in Ca Mau City in 2023-2024. Materials and method: Mothers with children from 6 to 12 months old in Ca Mau City in 2023-2024. Intervention research using communication measures in the community with a control group with an intervention period of 6 months. The study used a simple random sampling method with a sample size of 250 mothers in the intervention group and 250 mothers in the control group. Results: Before the intervention, the correct knowledge rate about breastfeeding wasn’t high (control group: 76.0%; intervention group: 75.6%). The correct breastfeeding practices rate was low (intervention group: 65.39%; control group: 65.89%). After the intervention, the rate of mothers with correct knowledge, and practices about breastfeeding in the intervention group were 92.8%, 83.6%, (increased by 17.2%; 19.6%) respectively. The intervention effectiveness changed the rate of mothers with the correct knowledge, correct practices about breastfeeding, which were 19.1%, 24.7%, respectively. Conclusion: There were significant effects in improving mothers' knowledge and practices about breastfeeding through communication measures.
