Abstract

Background: Mental health is currently a matter of concern among students. This study provided research data on students' mental health issues and related factors in Bac Tan Uyen district, Binh Duong province. Objectives: To determine the proportion of mental health problems and related factors in high school students. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 329 Le Loi high school students from May 2023 to November 2023, using the SDQ25 scale. Results: 21.9% of students had mental health problems, 17.9% of students were suspected of having mental health problems, the proportion of women is higher (26% compared to 16.9%), students with the disease disability will have a higher rate (30.9% compared to 19.5%), the group of students who having someone to share with will be less likely of having mental health issues (17.8% compared to 28.3%), the group of students living in the families that have drunk-members, will be more likely of having mental health problems (36,1% compared to 20.1%), the group of students who likes to go to school will own a lower rate of mental health issues (19.2% compared to 32.4%), the students who go to private tutoring will experience a higher number of mental health problems (24.7% compared to 13.8) %), and also having a higher pressure of studing from their family (25.3% compared to 13%), those students who are being forced to be quiet by friends owned a higher rate of mental health issues than the remaining group (35.3% compared to 20.3%), the group of students that frequently being punished by parents will be more susceptible at 29.5% compared to 19.1%, and the students using social networks more than 3 times per day with total hours more than 3 hours per day, easier to be caught with mental health issues (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Le Loi school students have mental health problems at a higher rate than the national average.
