STATUS OF HYPERTENSION TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT, AND OUTCOME EVALUATION AFTER INTERVENTIONS AT COMMUNE HEALTH CENTERS IN CAN THO CITY

Abstract
Background: Managing hypertension in Vietnam presents significant challenges, particularly at commune health centers (CHCs). As of now, 11.4% of CHCs do not implement hypertension management. Objectives: To describe the current state of hypertension management at CHCs and evaluate the outcomes following intervention at selected centers in Can Tho City during 2023-2024. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted involving 80 CHCs and 28 health workers from clinics in two districts selected for intervention. Results: A majority of CHCs had health insurance coverage below 90% (62.5%) and employed hypertension management software (63.7%). Availability of key antihypertensive medications such as amlodipine, captopril, and losartan were noted. Factors such as patient counseling, provision of medicines through health insurance, having dedicated staff, and utilization of management software were significantly associated with meeting hypertension management requirements (p<0.05). Postintervention, health workers’ knowledge improved markedly, with the intervention efficacy reaching 47.3%. Conclusion: 61.3% of CHCs met the requirements for hypertension treatment and management according to the Ministry of Health's regulations. Factors such as training in hypertension management, medicine provision through health insurance, dedicated staff, and use of management software were significantly associated with compliance (p<0.05). The intervention led to a notable improvement in health workers’ knowledge, with an efficacy of 47.3%.
