EVALUATION OF MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND RESULTS OF FILLING ROOT CANAL SYSTEM OF MAXILLARY SECOND PREMOLAR TEETH WITH PERIODOMATIC DISEASE BY USING WARM VERTICAL COMPACTION TECHNIQUE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The research on the effectiveness of the warm vertical compaction technique with gutta percha is still limited, especially on maxillary second premolar teeth. Objectives: To describe the clinical and radiographic characteristics and evaluate the results of filling of maxillary second premolars with periapical pathology using the warm vertical compaction technique at Odonto Maxillo facial Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023-2024. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 48 patients with upper second premolars with periapical disease and endodontic treatment indicated. Patients were researched on the following contents: age, gender, occupation, reason for hospitalization, type of tooth cause, diagnosis of pathological cause, location of tooth damage, nature of pain, color of tooth, assessment on X-ray... Data were processed using Stata 14.0. Results: The study recorded 16 males and 32 females, constituting 33.33% and 66.67% of the sample, respectively. The average age of the participants was 41.6 ± 11.7 years. Regarding hospital admissions, 100% of the patients presented with pain symptoms, among which 93.75% experienced pain upon stimulation. In 62.5% of the cases, the morphology of the second upper molar's pulp chamber was classified as Type I according to Vertucci's classification, and after obturation, 97.92% of these teeth were successfully sealed using the warm vertical condensation technique. Conclusion: A survey of the morphology of root canals on X-ray films according to Vertucci's classification (1974) showed that Type I predominated, accounting for 62.5%. The majority of the results of root canal obturation using the warm vertical compaction technique were rated as good across all three characteristics of length, shape, and density, with rates of 97.92%, 97.92%, and 100%, respectively.
