STUDY ON KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE RELATED TO TOOTH WEAR OF FIRST-YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN 2023-2024

Abstract
Background: Tooth wear is a common and increasing oral health problem that affects not only aesthetics but also chewing function and speech. Although there are various causes, awareness about tooth wear in the medical community is still not comprehensive, with limited knowledge about the issue among young adults. Medical students play an important role in raising awareness and improving oral health care, but their knowledge and attitudes toward tooth wear need to be surveyed in detail and updated continuously. Objective: To find out the knowledge and attitudes related to tooth wear among first-year Medical students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in
2023-2024. Materials and methods: Surveyed on 330 first-year medical students studying at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy and cross-sectional research method describing information through survey questionnaires for students including 15 questions about knowledge and 10 questions about attitude related to tooth wear. Results: The average total score on knowledge related to dental erosion of first-year medical students was 8.39 ± 3.564. The average total score on attitudes related to dental erosion was 39.91 ± 4.230. Conclusion: First-year medical students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy have basic knowledge and attitudes about tooth wear, but they still need to be equipped with more specific knowledge and skills to actively participate in effective tooth wear prevention activities.
