CLINICAL FEATURES AND IMAGING OF ISCHEMIC STROKE IN YOUNG ADULTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The incidence of ischemic stroke among young people has been increasing in recent years and is becoming a burden on society. In Vietnam, studies on ischemic stroke in young adults are still few, and the description of clinical and imaging characteristics of ischemic stroke in adults is still not specific and detailed. Objectives: 1. To describe the clinical features of ischemic stroke in young adults aged 18-44 years. 2. To describe the imaging characteristics of ischemic stroke in young people aged 18-44 years. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 255 patients having ischemic stroke aged 18-44 years at Ho Chi Minh City University Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: There were 255 ischemic stroke patients aged 18-44 years included in the study with an average age of 37.7±5.8 years, 67.1% male. NIHSS scores 0-4 accounted for the highest proportion (67.1%), 23% of patients functionally dependent (mRS>2). Imaging showed that the lesion on the tent was 4.7 times that of the lesion under the tent, the left side was dominant, with 39,6% of patients having at least one large cerebral artery stenosis. Conclusions: Patients in the study had an average age of 37.7±5.8 years with male dominance, 67.1% were mild strokes, but up to 23% of patients were functionally dependent. The lesion site on the tent and left side predominated, with up to 39.6% of patients reporting at least one major cerebral artery stenosis of all causes.
