AMOUNT OF BLOOD LOSS AND RELATED FACTORS IN CESAREAN DELIVERY OF WOMEN WITH PLACENTA PREVIA AT CAN THO GYNEOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS HOSPITAL IN 2022-2024
Main Article Content
Abstract
Backgound: Placenta previa is a high-risk pregnancy that is often terminated by cesarean delivery. Placenta previa increases the risk of blood transfusions, hysterectomy rates, and even maternal death. Therefore, accurately determining the amount of blood loss on surgery and factors related to the amount of blood loss will help minimize complications on surgery and after that. Objectives: To assess of blood loss and some related factors in cesarean delivery of women with placenta previa at Can Tho Gyneology and Obstetrics hospital. Materials and methods: A crosssectional descriptive study with analysis was performed on 74 cases of placenta previa at Can Tho Gyneology and Obstetrics hospital from July 2022 to June 2024. Result: The average blood loss was 699.7 ± 206.9mL, with the lowest blood loss being 320mL and the highest being 1380mL. A medical history of cesarean delivery makes the risk of bleeding 2.8 times higher than no cesarean section (p=0.041, CI: 1.05-7.6). Antepartum haemorrhage makes the risk of bleeding 2.6 times higher than no bleeding (p=0.045, CI: 1.02-6.8). Anterior placenta location makes the risk of bleeding 3.9 times higher than posterior placenta (p=0.025, CI: 1.2-12.7). Placenta previa with placenta accreta makes the risk of bleeding 5.6 times higher than no placenta accreta (p=0,041, Cl: 1.1-29.1). Conclusion: Blood loss in cesarean delivery with placenta previa is 699,7±206,9mL. Factors such as a medical history of cesarean section, antepartum haemorrhage, anterior placenta location, placenta previa with placenta accreta significantly increase blood loss on surgery.
