A SURVEY ON CURRENT FACTORS ASSOCIATED TO SERUM IRON DEFCIENCY IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEART FAILURE WITH REDUCED EJECTION FRACTION
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The rate of serum iron deficiency in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction from 30% to 50%. Serum iron deficiency worsens heart failure, reduces quality of life, increases mortality in chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. But in clinical practice, iron deficiency in patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction has not been given appropriate attention. Objectives: 1. To determine the prevalence of serum iron deficiency in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. 2. To survey the relation of some factors and serum iron deficiency in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Materials and method: This crosssectional study was conducted in 132 chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction patients from April 2023 to May 2024 at Bac Lieu General Hospital. Patients admitted to the hospital were included in the study. Data of medical history, clinical examinnation biochemical tests, echocardiography. Results: The rate of serum iron deficiency in chronic heart failure was 36.5%, of which 18.9% was absolute iron deficiency and 16.7% was functional iron deficiency. Serum iron deficiency was related to female, creatinine, the NYHA classification, quality of life, NT-proBNP, and hs-CRP. Conclusion: Serum iron deficiency is common in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction, and is closely related to the clinical and subclinical status.
