LDL-C TARGET ACHIEVEMENT AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS IN VERY HIGH CARDIOVASCULAR RISK PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS IN CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL IN 2023-2024
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Dyslipidemia often occurs in diabetic patients but the treatment rate is often low, especially in the very high-risk patient group according to the Guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) in 2021. Objectives: To determine the rate of achieving LDL-c goals in very high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study on 45 very high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was examined at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in 2023-2024. Results: The average LDL-c concentration in patients at the time of the study was 2.32 ± 1.04 mmol/L. The proportion of patients achieving the LDL-c target according to ESC 2021 at the time of the study was 15.6%. The proportion of nonsmoking patients who achieved the LDL-c target was 100%, which was statistically significantly higher than that of those who did not achieve the LDL-c target with 57.9%. There was a strong positive linear correlation between LDL-c and non-HDL-c concentrations with r = 0.74 and the proportion of patients achieving both LDL-c and non-HDL-c targets was statistically significantly higher than that of those who did not achieved the LDL-c target, with 57.1% compared to 5,3%. No statistically significant differences were found between age , gender, alcohol consumption, physical activity, duration of diabetes, body mass index, blood sugar level, glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria with LDL-c target achievement rate. Conclusion: The proportion of very high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus achieving the LDL-c target according to ESC 2021 is still very low. In fact, the number of patients treated with high-intensity statins in this group is still limited. Non-HDL-c is a factor related to the rate of LDL-c target achievement.
