CLINICAL, SUBCLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND RESULTS OF TREATMENT OF URTERIAL STONES IN RENAL FAILURE PATIENTS USING RETROGRADE URETEROSCOPIC LITHOTRIPSY USING LASER ENERGY AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL AND CAN THO CENTRAL GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2023-2024

Abstract
Background: It remains unclear whether retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy in patients with ureteral stones with renal failure can provide the expected benefits and has some side effects. Objectives: To survey the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and evaluate the results of treatment of ureteral stones in patients with kidney failure by endoscopic retrograde lithotripsy using laser energy. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional description of 41 patients with ureteral stones and kidney failure at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Can Tho Central General Hospital in 2023 - 2024. Results: There were 41 patients, of which 63.4% were male, average age was 55.6 ± 10.5, body mass index 22.0 ± 3.1kg/m2. History of hypertension, history of medical treatment for urinary stones, main symptom of low back pain, and acute renal failure are the most common features. Ureteral stones are common in the lower third (46.3%), size <10mm (58.5%), and hydronephrosis grade I (56.1%). Blood urea concentration was 7.5 (5.8; 9.1) mmol/L, blood creatinine was 151 (128; 174) μmol/L, hyperkalemia rate was 36.6%. No cases of serious complications were recorded. Stone clean rate 97.6%. The overall success rate is 95.1%. Conclusions: Endoscopic retrograde lithotripsy using laser energy to treat ureteral stones in patients with renal failure is a safe and highly effective method.
