Abstract

Background: Disseminated intravascular coagulation is a severe, life-threatening coagulation disorder in patients with septic shock. Objectives: To determine the rate and some factors related to disseminated intravascular coagulation in septic shock patients at Can Tho Central General Hospital in 2023-2024. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 59 patients with septic shock. All patients are asked for medical history, clinical examination, and laboratory tests to help with diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. Results: The rate of disseminated intravascular coagulation was 32.2%. There was an association between gastrointestinal infection, SOFA score >9 and disseminated intravascular coagulation. Conclusions: Disseminated intravascular coagulation is a common coagulation disorder in patients with septic shock and there is an association between gastrointestinal infection, high SOFA score at admission and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
