FIBROEPITHELIAL POLYPS CAUSING URETEROPELVIC JUNCTION OBSTRUCTION IN CHILDREN: A CASE REPORT AT CITY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Fibroepithelial polyps are benign mesodermal tumors that are usually located in the ureteropelvic junction and the proximal lumbar urerter. However, in the pediatric population, fibroepithelial polyps are more common in the posterior urethra and polyps at the ureteropelvic junction are extremely rare. Patients are often presented with symptoms of urinary tract obstruction. Some will present with flank pain and hematuria, resembling symptoms of ureteric stones. We reported on a 10-year-old boy presenting with complaints of hematuria one week ago, admitted City Children’s Hospital. On CT imaging, the patient was diagnosed with ureteropelvic junction obstruction due to ureteral tumor. The patient underwent laparoscopic surgery and was diagnosed to be fibroepithelial ureteral polyp in operation and histologic examination. This case illustrated a rare cause of urinary obstruction that should be considered when the imaging findings and presentation are atypical for more common etiologies of ureteral obstruction.
