ANXIETY DISORDERS AND DEPRESSION IN PATIENTS WITH ACNE TREATED AT CAN THO DERMATO-VENEREOLOGY HOSPITAL IN 2023

Abstract

Background: Acne is a very common skin disease in clinical dermatology practice. Although it is a benign disease, the appearance of injured skin has negatively affected to the mental health of patients, which cannot be denied. Objectives: To determine the rates of anxiety disorders, depression and some related factors in patients with acne treated at Can Tho Dermato-Venereology Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 130 patients with acne treated at Can Tho Dermato-Venereology Hospital from June 2023 to September 2023. Anxiety disorders and depression were assessed by using the HADS scale and information was collected by using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: Among the 130 patients participating in the research, 46 (35.4%) reported mild anxiety disorders and 18 (13.8%) reported moderate anxiety disorders. Depression was found in 29 patients (22.3%), with 28 (21.5%) having mild depression and 1 (0.8%) having moderate depression. There was a relationship between anxiety disorders, depression with the the duration of disease, and with grade of the disease (p<0.05). Conclusions: The percentage of anxiety disorders and depression in acne patients is relatively high. They are significantly related to the duration of the disease and the degree of the disease. We need to concern about this issue in the treatment and management of acne patients.
