ORGANIZING VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES IN PANDEMIC PREVENTION THROUGH THE PERSPECTIVE OF STUDENTS AT PHAM NGOC THACH UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE

Abstract

Background: The preparation and organization of volunteer activities affect the quality and efficiency of participants' work as well as the motivation to participate in the future. Objective: To explore the perceptions of nursing students of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine about the organizing of volunteer activities for pandemic control. Materials and method: Quantitative combined qualitative research among 132 undergraduate nursing students from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine who volunteered to participate in pandemic prevention in 2021. Results: The overall rate was 85.6% of students reporting that the organization was good. Of these, paying attention to ensuring student safety and having students receive full instructions on work accounts for the highest percentage at 95.5% and 94.7%. Students reported being provided with enough personal protective equipment, accounting for 92.4%. 88.6% of students reported they were provided with the correct type of personal protective equipment and 90.9% reported that the personal protective equipment provided was of guaranteed quality. Results from in-depth interviews and group discussions also show that in general, students appraised relatively positively the organization of student volunteer activities. However, students also commented that there needs to be a closer connection between the school and the locality and preparing students with the ability to respond to some necessary situations. Conclusion: Students' perception of the organization of volunteer activities for students participating in pandemic prevention is relatively positive. The University and locality where students volunteer to maintain and promote preparation and support for students in participating in community activities.
