KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, AND FACTORS RELATED TO MONKEYPOX PREVENTION OF PEOPLE IN TAN THANH COMMUNE, NGA BAY CITY, HAU GIANG PROVINCE IN 2023

Abstract

Background: Monkeypox is a viral disease transmitted from person to person. This is a new epidemic recorded in our country, but the pathogen has penetrated the community. Objectives: To determine the rate of knowledge, correct attitude and learn some related factors about monkeypox prevention among people in Tan Thanh commune, Nga Bay city, Hau Giang province in 2023. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive design with analysis of over 310 households in Tan Thanh commune, Nga Bay city, Hau Giang province in 2023 with direct interview method using a set of prepared questions. Results: The proportion of people with correct knowledge and attitudes about monkeypox prevention is 16,8% and 66,5% respectively; there is a statistically significant difference between knowledge and age, gender, education, and occupation; ever heard about monkeypox; hand washing behavior before and after eating, after going to the toilet; participation in vaccination and attitude (p<0.05); relationship between attitude and age, education, ever heard about monkeypox, frequency of wearing masks, participating in vaccination, and participating in local propaganda activities (p<0.05). Conclusion: Knowledge and attitude affect monkeypox prevention. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen communication work on monkeypox prevention, especially for groups of people who work in fields and gardens and have low education levels
