KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, AND PRACTICE OF HPV VACCINE INOCULATION IN FEMALE STUDENTS OF CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN 2022

Abstract

Background: More than 99% of cervical cancer cases were caused by HPV virus infection in women globally. Cervical cancer vaccination was one of the best measures to prevent cervical cancer. Objective: To determine the rate of accurate knowledge, attitude and accurate practice in HPV vaccination to avert cervical cancer in female students of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 894 female students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: 43.5% of students scored correct knowledge about HPV with 81.4% of students having heard about the 3 types of HPV vaccines and 89.5% of students knowing that the HPV vaccine is effective in preventing cervical cancer. The rate of students with the right attitude was 64.8% with the proportion willing to get vaccinated was 64.3%. The number of students who have been shot against HPV accounts for 33.8%, of which 90.0% of students have received all 3 doses of the vaccine. Conclusion: Knowledge about HPV vaccination among female students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy is not high, the number of vaccinated students is still low.
