Abstract

Background: Pain and symptoms of nerve root syndrome such as numbness and decreased sensation in musculoskeletal diseases affect movement and daily life and can leave serious sequelae such as muscle atrophy, urinary disorders, lifelong disability,... are a burden on individuals and society. “Huangqi guizhi wuwu decoction” is a traditional remedy of Oriental medicine that is considered effective in relieving pain and improving lumbar nerve root compression effectively for these diseases. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of improving nerve root syndrome of the medicinal regimen Huangqi guizhi wuwu decoction combined with Duhuo Jisheng and accupuncture and spinal stretching in patients with compression syndrome lumbar nerve root compression for inpatient treatment at Can Tho Traditional Medicine Hospital. Materials and methods: Including 44 patients diagnosed with lumbar nerve root compression syndrome treated inpatient at Can Tho City Traditional Medicine Hospital. Clinical intervention research method without control group, evaluating results before and after treatment. Results: Patients aged 40-49 years accounted for the majority, the proportion of men with the disease was higher than that of women. The VAS score decreased from 7.43 ± 0.818 to 2.43 ± 0.846, Lasègue test, the level of sensory disturbances, and bell imprint improved significantly after 14 days of treatment. Conclusions: The medicinal regimen of Huangqi guizhi wuwu decoction combined with Duhuo Jisheng, accupuncture and spinal manipulation helps improve lumbar nerve root compression syndrome in patients with spine degeneration and disc herniation lumbar.
